The Photograph

On a hot Saturday afternoon,

with the sleep in my eyes soon,

Searching in my cupboard for something,

I found photographs on the shelf cling.

One by one, I took them all,

Just to see how my childhood was after all.

It was like eating a box full of sweets,

Once you open it, you cannot have only one to eat.

….

But one photograph struck me of all,

Due to its sheer innocence,

Me sitting on my mother’s lap with a pout on my face,

And she clutching me with all her grace.

The love she has for me is totally palpable,

Like her beauty which is also admirable!

….

A lot has changed since that photo in the folder,

I have become a grown-up and she a bit older,

But with her age, older has become her love for me,

Like an old bottle of wine which gets richer with the age,

The boy in that photograph doesn’t understand the love which he got,

But a grown-up in me now understands that it is Mother’s love and it means a lot!

….

Happy Mother’s Day!

Always,

Arjav
